about
This song is extremely personal and important to me, and I thought it was a fitting choice for the first single off my upcoming debut EP.
Stranglehold was born from the deep and profound sadness I regularly feel, when I reflect on the way humanity treats the earth and all of its creatures, including the way we treat one another. Seemingly because we are unable to recognise that we are all born of it, part of it, and part of all the life around us, as it is all inextricably, part of us.
lyrics
You're not there, and I'm not even there
No, we're all here
But do you even care?
Do you even know, what you'll have to show for it
When all the parties close, and all the faces that you know are gone
Where you goin', where you comin' from?
You know that we're all here
And what's goin' on is
Hurtin' me, it's hurtin' you too
If you could only see it's us
It's all you have you to do
But you, you know it all
Because you're so damn smart
When all that you have got
Is a stranglehold around your own heart
And the more you squeeze
The more you come apart
What's the endgame, do you even know?
What you've got to lose, when it's time to go and
Who exactly do you think you are
When we're all here, it's all of us from the start
But you, you, you take it all
You think you're so damn smart
When all you that have done
Is put a stranglehold around your own heart
And the more you squeeze
The more you come apart

Catanchin.
Helen’s uniquely warm tone – simultaneously earthy and incredibly pure – and a true bard’s ability to deftly expose the beating heart of every song, along with her poetic and poignant, cuts-to-the-bone songwriting, all put their unmistakable stamp on Katankin’s songs....more
